Cycle 5 To Survive: Donating to 5 Charities with 5 Bike Rides on 5 Continents for 5 Summers
GiveWise is privileged to partner with Cycle 5 To Survive, facilitating the donations to 5 charities through an impressive 5 bike rides on 5 continents for 5 summers, a cause that has been birthed in our hometown, Abbotsford BC!
What is Cycle 5 To Survive (C5TS)?
P.L. and his wife Kristen combined their love of cycling with a desire to help those less fortunate by creating ‘Cycle 5 to Survive’ (C5TS). They set out to use their time, talent, and treasures to raise money and awareness for charities so they can fulfill their purposes of creating cycles of opportunity for the less fortunate through sports, education, or business.
This purpose is based on their diverse skill sets: Kristen brings education to the table, while P.L.’s background in business drives them forward with a focus on success. Their idea wasn’t born as a fleeting thought; instead, it emerged from a desire for P.L. wanting to find more meaning in life, and by the mutual celebration of his 50th birthday and Kristen’s 55th birthday in 2022.
Using the number ‘5’ – representative of their ages, they are setting out on an incredible journey: they are pledged to traverse five continents on bicycles over the next five years while partnering with five different charities along the way in the hopes of raising $500,000 for each charity. What began as a dream evolved into reality through C5TS—a reality that is helping make positive changes in the world.
The Ride Starts June 17, 2023

After travelling to the Dominican Republic in 2022 P.L and Kristen were able to see the impact of the Aspiring Together Women's group which increases resiliency by educating women to grow savings for emergenices by having them start a business with access to microfinancing, at least 12 weeks of training, coaching and networking to manage personal and business financies and follow budgets.
Provides university education to students from war-impacted countries. It has already provided aid for Ukranian refugees and is looking to broaden its impact with its expansion of its "Middle East Scholars Program".
Creates income and livelihood opportunities in developing contries. They start with people first, engaging deeply with the people and communities they serve to look for solutions that are desirable (what do people want), feasible (does it work?) and viable (will it make money and sustain itself?)
Works to break the cycle of extreme poverty of those living in Korah, Ethiopia, one of the most impoverished places in the world. Hope for Korah uses a wholistic approach which includes sports, education and business initiatives to offer hope and future to vulnerable children and families in Korah.
Supports more than 150 young girls with their educational journey from early childhood to undergraduate studies. The C5TS funds will go towards a long held-dream of establishing an endowment fund to enable 50 girls every year to receive full educational support indefinitely.
The GiveWise team is here to cheer P.L. and Kristen on every step of the way, and to help make it simple for donors to financially support this epic endeavour!
